Welcome Message from Beth Paap - Interim District Administrator

Boozhoo,
The Bayfield School Board has voted to extend 100% virtual learning through Friday, November 6, 2020. This decision is due to concern from our health departments about the recent spread of COVID-19. To better communicate with families, the District will publish a weekly update on the school website and social media pages.
Miigwech,
Beth Paap

Message from Mr. Peterson – Bayfield & LaPointe Elementary Schools
We are busy at the elementary schools this week finishing up our universal screener test for math and reading (STAR) as well as our individualized reading screener (Fountas and Pinnell) so teachers will have a better understanding where each student is at with their math and reading skills. While testing can cause anxiety in our students, these tests help our teachers understand how to best support your child's learning. Next week we will resume our classroom learning with activities and lessons geared to engage students and provide opportunities for growth. Our staff will also be participating in the district led safety training so that when we are able to bring students back into school, we can be as safe as possible. This may be as soon as the start of the second quarter. We will have more info on that soon.
We would like to remind families that regular attendance to virtual classroom meetings and lessons is important for the growth of your child(ren) and that we understand that each family has a unique set of circumstances that may present limitations and frustrations to students and families. Please know that the Bayfield School District staff is here to support you. Please reach out to your child(ren)'s teacher, our elementary office, and/or myself if you are having difficulty getting your kids logged into their virtual classrooms or other barriers to regular attendance. Let's keep the connections between our school and your family strong!
Grade 3 Report
Boozhoo from Mrs. Brown, Ms. Helser, and our 3rd Graders! Next week our 3rd graders will be practicing 21st-century learning skills and will have fun doing it! Each student will be creating a poster about themselves on Google Drawings. They will learn to start a google drawing, insert images/clip art, type in text boxes, format with borders, add word art, and share it with others. Then we will put it all together in Google Slides and present it at our Google Meeting. It is also a great way to get to know each other better! Wish us luck!
Message from Mrs. Swanson, Middle/High Schools
Start College Now and Early College Credit Program (ECCP), formerly Youth Options, applications are due to Mr. Livingston by October 1st for Spring Semester. Please email dlivingston@bayfield.k12.wi.us with any questions you may have. It is an excellent way to get a headstart on earning post-secondary credits for free.
STAR Reading and Math assessments will be happening in middle school and high school English Language Arts and Math classes. Teachers will be sharing with students the testing dates. Also, be sure to check your emails for additional information.
Attendance is very important. If you will be absent please call the school secretary, 715-779-3201, ext. 415, so you don't receive an unexcused absence. Multiple unexcused absences will lead to truancy.
Staff will be going through safety protocols with our safety team members beginning this week. Small groups will be learning additional safety measures to prepare for our return to in-person learning. Remember, the first quarter is completely virtual and the administration team will continue to plan for review on when we will move to Level 2 instruction.
Message from Jeff Gordon, Dean of Students/Athletic Director/PBIS Coordinator
Hello everyone,
The attendance and participation of everyone have been excellent so far. Thanks to you for joining in with your classes and doing the best you can on a day to day bases. Hopefully, we will all be back together in early November to enjoy the school buildings again.
Attendance is so essential for everyone. If you find it hard to log on or attend your classes, please let us know ASAP. We can assist you and help you with any problems you may be having. Also, I will be calling parents and students who appear to have a high absence rate from classes to help and assist you during this time. Or, you can call me or email me too. The sooner, the better.
Athletic Update
Due to the Bayfield County Health Services order, the fall sports teams (Volleyball, Soccer & Cross Country) and in-person school activities (Quiz Bowl, Forensics, etc.) are canceled through December 3rd. The coaches and players were informed of this on Tuesday, September 29th. We will work with the conference schools to make-up the volleyball games sometime in March and early April. It is an ongoing situation, and as we get more information, we will pass it on to the parents, guardians, families, and students who participate in school activities & sports.
If you have any questions or comments, my phone number at the school is 715-779-3201, ext. 330. And my email is jgordon@bayfield.k12.wi.us.
Miigwech,
Mr. Gordon
